I had a professor in college who really inspired me to do great things. He was an English teacher, and I'm sure he has no idea who I am today, but I will never forget the things he taught me in that first year creative writing class.
So was he smart? Probably - but more importantly, he took the time to get to know me on a level that no other professor did. So the question probably shouldn't be who is the smartest professor, but who really cares about their students?
